Create with Light, Shadow, Color, and Texture

Art and science come together in Creativity Connections. Experiment with light and shadow, stack and build, and explore materials in ways that spark imagination and invite discovery.

There is no right way to create here. Every shadow, structure, and masterpiece is uniquely your own.

What You’ll Do

Play with light and shadow. Build patterns and structures. Explore texture, balance, and design. Create, experiment, and discover how art and science work together in surprising ways.

Some experiences encourage active movement while others invite quiet observation and sensory exploration. Every visit offers new opportunities to create and wonder.

What Children are Learning

As they play, children develop:

  • Creativity and self-expression
  • Problem solving and experimentation
  • Spatial awareness and 3-D thinking
  • Pattern recognition and symmetry
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Fine and gross motor coordination
  • Observation and visual thinking

Freeze Your Shadow

Strike a pose and watch your shadow stay behind! This playful light experience invites children to experiment with movement, light, and shadow while encouraging creativity, observation, and plenty of laughter.

Why This Play Matters

Creative experiences help children make sense of the world around them. As they experiment with light, shadow, texture, and design, children learn to observe closely, express ideas, and think in new ways. Open-ended art experiences encourage curiosity, flexible thinking, and the confidence to create something uniquely their own.

Growing with Play

Younger Children

Young children explore through their senses. They notice changing shadows, stack blocks, touch different textures, and imitate the world around them. These experiences encourage curiosity, observation, and creative expression.

Older Children

Older children begin experimenting intentionally. They design patterns, build complex structures, investigate balance and symmetry, and discover how light, shadow, and materials can be used to communicate ideas.

Play Together
Ask questions like:

  • What do you notice?
  • Can we build something taller?
  • How many different patterns can we make?
  • What does this remind you of?
