International Day of Play with MAGNA-TILES

Celebrate the International Day of Play at DCM with our friends from MAGNA-TILES!

 

Can’t-Miss Event: From build stations to collaborative play zones, families will have the opportunity to get hands-on with more MAGNA-TILES than they could ever imagine. 

  • Build-A-Robot – Create a 3D robot and use magnetic materials–like metal washers, magnetic wands, and “junk drawer” treasures to add personality to your ‘mechanical’ friend.
  • Build Your World – Be an architect and engineer a magnetic metropolis of your own design. Connect your world to your neighbors’ in this collaborative building zone.
  • Word Builder Challenge – Build as many words as you can using microMAGS Learn Letters™ tiles. Can you use every letter in the set?
  • Hands-On Number Play – Explore numbers through hands-on play. Match dots, count it out, and build simple math concepts together.
  • Longest Ride Challenge – Test, measure, and discover which object and track can go the distance!
  • Free Build, Big & Small – Engage in free-building and explore scale with MAGNA-TILES and microMAGS.
  • Build & Guess Challenge – Connect and play together with a MAGNA-TILES inspired build-and-guess game.
  • Light it Up! – Use light to explore how colors, shapes, and shadows change as you build, move, and experiment!
  • Tile Art Studio – Create a custom tile design with chalk markers to add to your collection at home.
  • Mirror Symmetry Play – Build on one side of a mirror and explore symmetry as your design is reflected and completed.
  • Shape Art – Trace MAGNA-TILES in layers to create unique works of abstract art!

A Day to Celebrate: International Day of Play (June 11) is a joyful reminder of the power of play. It’s a day to celebrate, connect, and champion the belief that all children deserve the time, space, and opportunity to reach their full potential—through play.

Design Your Own MAGNA-TILES Animal World

MAGNA-TILES Workshop

Design, build, and engineer your own animal and habitat using MAGNA-TILES while thinking like real product designers.

  • This program is 45 minutes long and recommended for children aged 5-8 years old.
  • A caregiver must accompany the child during the session. A small activity area will be provided for younger siblings.
  • 10:00, 11:00, 1:00, and 2:00
  • Space is limited. Tickets are released at the program room 1 hour before each session and are available on a first come, first served basis.

This initiative is part of MAGNA-TILES commitment to Promoting Meaningful Play and contributes to their 2025 goal of 400+ volunteer hours dedicated to play-based learning. It also reflects the United Nations’ recognition that every child deserves the time, space, and opportunity to play, unlocking their full potential.
