Sock Skating & More!

Through Monday, February 16

Slide into the season with Winter Whimsy & Wonder: Sock Skating & More. Glide, twirl, and giggle your way across DCM’s indoor sock skating rink—where the ice never melts, and the fun never ends! Explore more frosty-themed activities that mix movement, imagination, and learning:

  • Sock Skating Rink – Slip, spin, and slide in your socks!
  • Cocoa Counter – Stir up sweet “cocoa” creations while exploring math and measurement.
  • Mini Zamboni Table – Smooth “ice” shavings and sweep away “snow” just like a real rink crew!
  • Pop-Up Snowball Fun – Put the laws of motion to the test with buckets of “snowballs.”
  • Ice Block Building – Build and balance with “blocks of ice.”
  • Ribbons & Winter Wings – Add flair to your skating performance!
  • Winter Book Nook – Cozy up for a story time escape.

It’s the coolest kind of winter fun—no coats, mittens, or shoveling required!

Where Play Meets Possibility

It's More Than Just Winter Fun

As children slide, spin, and explore, they’re also building essential skills through joyful, active learning. Sock skating strengthens balance, core stability, and gross motor coordination, while playful physics experiments—like tossing snowballs or gliding across a slick surface—help kids discover cause and effect with their whole bodies.

Creative stations like the Cocoa Counter encourage early math and problem solving, and imaginative play at the Arctic Train Table or Book Nook boosts storytelling, spatial reasoning, and social connection. Every wintery activity invites children to experiment, design, observe, and wonder—turning frosty fun into meaningful moments of growth.

Don’t forget your socks! Cotton or natural fiber socks slide the best. Pro tip: Turn grippy socks inside out for a slicker experience.

This experience is included with Museum admission or membership.

Sock skating is a physical activity involving balance and sliding. There is a risk of falls and injury. By entering DCM’s Sock Skating rink you and your party acknowledge and voluntarily assume all risks related to sock skating.
