Museum PopUps Early Learners

DCM’s Museum PopUps bring hands-on STEAM learning specifically designed for our youngest explorers and their families to your school, library, or community center. 

 

Each of our learning activity bundles are designed to encourage hands-on exploration, creative expression, curiosity, and relationship building. A 90-minute PopUp includes a DCM Early Learning Facilitator, large exhibit experiences, and tabletop activities. Each PopUp is aligned with both Illinois Early Learning Guidelines and Illinois Learning and Development Standards and are designed to provide an inclusive, and accessible interactive experience for all children ages birth to 5 years.  

 

Cost: $350 per Activity Bundle (includes 90-minute experience for up to 45 children, all materials, DCM facilitator, set up, and take down)

Social Emotional Learning

Take Care

What does it mean to care for each other? In our “Take Care!” PopUp, children will explore their impact on the world around them by building and repairing habitats, creating gardens, and designing neighborhoods for all people. Children will work with their families and peers to be caretakers of their own environments!

 

Intended Outcome

  • Children will gain an awareness and appreciation for the natural and built world, while exploring their autonomy in affecting their environment.

 

Student Learning Goals

  • IELG 
    • SEL Empathy: Children demonstrate an emerging ability to understand someone else’s feelings and to share in the emotional experiences of others.  
  • IELDS:
    • 14.A.ECb: Contribute to the well‐being of one’s early childhood environment, school, and community.

Scientific Thinking

Unstoppable

Can you use air to knock down a block tower? Can you play with light to create new colors? Can you create a contraption that defies gravity?  Children will explore the invisible forces of gravity, light, wind by using their scientific thinking skills to tinker, create, and complete engineering challenges!

 

Intended Outcome

  • Children will use cause and effect, trial and error, and scientific thinking to explore properties of gravity, light, and air.

 

Student Learning Goals

  • IELG 
    • Cognitive Development: Children demonstrate the ability to use knowledge, previous experiences, and trial and error to make sense of and impact their world.
  • IELDS
    • 12.D.ECa: Describe the effects of forces in nature.
    • 12.D.ECb: Explore the effect of force on objects in and outside the early childhood environment.

 

Art & Making

Mini Makers

What do you call a person who builds, paints, glues, cuts, tears things apart and puts them back together? A maker! MiniMakers brings the makerspace to you!  Children will use their hands and minds as they tinker and create using a variety of materials, like fabric, cardboard, yarn, and other familiar items.

 

Intended Outcome

  • Children will engage in process-driven arts and making activities.

 

Student Learning Goals

  • IELG
    • Persistence, Effort, & Attentiveness: Children demonstrate the ability to remain engaged in experiences and develop a sense of purpose and follow-through
  • IELDS
    • 26.B.ECa: Use creative arts as an avenue for self-expression.
Add On:

Sensational Me

Do you have students or families that could benefit from a little extra sensory support? Our “Sensational Me” add on experience will help create quiet areas for children to regulate as needed.  

 

Materials include: sensory tent, sensory tiles, water tube, sand timers, sensory tubes. 

Sensational Me is free of charge. Make sure to selected in on the PopUp request form.
