Join us for Story Time at DCM as we embark on literary adventures, from the imaginations of Eric Carle, Mo Willems, Jane Yolen, and many other favorite childhood authors and illustrators.

Join local author-illustrator Laura Smetana for an interactive story time of her new children’s book, My Lucky Leaf—a whimsical tale about the joys of catching and identifying fall leaves. Learn how she created the vivid watercolor collage illustrations using actual fall leaves, followed by a crayon leaf rubbing craft activity. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
LAURA SMETANA is an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator. She loves creating bright, joyful cut-paper watercolor collages inspired by nature. Her books include, My Lucky Leaf, My Love for You Is Like the Night Sky, My Love for You Is Like a Garden, which was named a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year, Ice Cream with Grandpa: A Loving Story for Kids About Alzheimer’s & Dementia, and Little Squiggle’s Lake Adventure. When she isn’t writing or painting, Laura can be found inspiring kids to create their own books at school visits, teaching collage art, and spending time with her family in the Chicago suburbs.
