Healthy Practices

DuPage Children’s Museum (DCM) strives to provide a safe place to play.

DCM Leadership is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and reviewing the recommendations from global, national and local health authorities. We are constantly assessing and will adapt as necessary to protect the health of both our visitors and staff.

We continue to emphasize the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) best prevention practices, including hand washing, not touching your face, and staying home when sick.

DCM has strong established cleaning and safety protocols, as well as other procedures that keep the Museum in top shape during cold and flu season. Given the public response and concern around COVID-19, we have furthered our vigilance and expanded our cleaning while remaining apprised of new practices to ensure we remain a safe and healthy environment for our guests and staff.

Sick Visitor Policy

We kindly request that people of all ages who:

  • exhibit symptoms of an illness that may be contagious
(such as fever, cough, sneezing, etc.),
  • have been exposed to someone who is ill, or
  • are too sick to go to school/work

stay home to protect the health of our visitors and staff.

Please come back and play when you are well and symptom-free.

Cleaning Procedures

We have met with the DuPage Department of Public Health. We recognize that we are a public resource for children and adults of all ages and seek to exceed any requirements that the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has in order to keep our visitors and staff as safe as possible.

We have regular cleaning procedures that follow the IDPH requirements for daycare environments which involve a combination of bleach water, dishwashers, and a hospital grade disinfectant called envirocide. In addition, we have a professional janitorial company that thoroughly cleans the building throughout the day and in the evening. During cold and flu season, we regularly require additional sanitizing of door handles, handrails, and frequently touched surfaces. Over the last several weeks, we have increased our daily cleaning routines of those regularly touched surfaces and added sanitizing wipe stations in common areas (in addition to the hand sanitizer stations that we already have in public spaces).

We have also ordered hydrogen peroxide wipes that have a 1 minute kill time for viruses that can be used safely on common surfaces. We have installed additional hand sanitizer stations to make it more convenient for our visitors.

If an area or object needs attention, we always encourage our visitors to notify our staff right away.
