Questioneer Data Collector

Position Title: Questioneer Data Collector
Status: Part-time Not Benefits Eligible, Non-exempt, Grant-funded
Job Classification: Building and Making
Hourly Wage Rage: $15.00 per hour
Desired dates and hours: Up to 25 hours per week
Beginning approximately May 7, 2024 and ending approximately June 30, 2024


Position Purpose: Data Collectors play a critical role in helping the exhibit development team gain insights into the guest experience at DuPage Children’s Museum through guest observations and data collection.

The vision of DuPage Children’s Museum (DCM) is that all children thrive through access to extraordinary learning experiences. A critical part of providing extraordinary experiences is understanding how visitors engage with those experiences after they are developed to ensure the experiences are encouraging learning behaviors as described by the Museum’s Learning Framework.

Questioneer Data Collectors:

  • Observe visitors and provide observations of their behavior including but not limited to time spent in exhibits, pathway traveled through and exhibit experience, conversations amongst family groups
  • Document observations in clear, concise language to be used by analysts
  • Perform interviews with visitors to ascertain perceptions of exhibit experiences in-person, by phone, or via Zoom or Google Meet
  • Must have completed research ethics training and maintain the practices of ethical human subject research

Job Relationships:

  • Reports to Chief of Building and Making
  • Maintain excellent relationships with all Museum personnel

Education and Experience:

  • Experience and/or interest in visitor evaluation and/or working with young children and families a plus
  • Guest-facing museum, retail, or related experience, a plus
  • Experience and proficiency with Google Suite and MS Office

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent guest service and interpersonal skills to relate and communicate to all levels of the DCM community
  • Comfort initiating conversations with all guests in a friendly and engaging manner
  • Accuracy, basic math skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to self-manage and self-motivate with guidance from supervisors; exhibit problem solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills
  •  Fluency in Spanish, and/or other languages aside from English, a plus

Other Requirements:

  • Comprehend and speak English extensively and clearly with the public; hear children’s voices
  • Physical requirements include standing for several hours at a time
  • Tolerate noise in the environment
  • Work schedule includes days, evenings, weekends, and some holidays
