Adaptive Play Time

DuPage Children’s Museum is dedicated to being an accessible, inclusive environment for children to thrive through extraordinary learning experiences. Adaptive Play Time provides a modified environment for play and learning for children and their caregivers.

This program is intended for families with disabilities, on the autism spectrum, and/or sensory processing disorders. 

 

Masks are optional.

What to Expect

Environment & Modifications

  • Limited attendance (pre-registration is required)
  • View a Social Story to prepare for your visit
  • Sensory Kits (noise reduction headphones, fidget objects, weighted neck wraps, timers, and more!)
  • Noise and light reduction
  • Visual cues in exhibits
  • Respite Room for sensory breaks
  • Dedicated DCM staff and volunteers to provide a supportive environment
  • Exhibits feature hands-on ways to play, explore, and create

Safety Measures & Reminders

  • It is recommended that guests age 2 years and older wear a mask
  • Guests should maintain a social distance of 6 ft. or greater from non-household individuals during their visit
  • Guests should utilize sanitizer wipe stations and/or hand sanitizer as needed throughout the event

 

Guests are asked to perform a COVID-19 self-assessment prior to visiting. If you or a family member are experiencing one or more of the following symptoms, please stay home:

 

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • If you have had close contact with anyone diagnosed with or who has symptoms of COVID-19 within the last 14 days
