Invertebrate Encounter

Explore life sciences with our newest Learning Lab ­– entomology! Using visual thinking strategies while observing stick insects, hissing cockroaches, tarantulas, and scorpions, students will:

  • Observe the differences between insects and arachnids

  • Discuss habitat and adaptation

  • Discover their role in the ecosystem and impact on the environment

 

 

Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards:

  • Demonstrate curiosity about the world and begin to use the practices of science and engineering to answer questions and solve problems

  • Explore concepts and information about the physical, earth, and life sciences

  • Understand that living things rely on the environment and/or others to live and grow

  • Understand important connections and understandings in science and engineering

 

Next Generation Science Standards:

  • Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems
  • Natural Selection and Adaptations

 

NOTE: The animals will not be taken out of their enclosures. Students will be observing but not touching.
