Housekeeper – Part Time

Position Title: Housekeeper
Status: Part time, non-exempt
Job Classification: Housekeeping/Janitorial
Pay Range: $13.00 – $15.00 per hour


Job Summary: The vision of DuPage Children’s Museum is that all children reach their full unique learning potential through hands-on play and S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) based experiences. The Housekeeper is a person with high integrity and attention to detail, who is both collaborative and able to work independently to maintain the high standards of this child-centered environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing
  • Ensure all areas of the museum are cared for,  inspected, and cleaned according to standards
  • Protect equipment and make sure there are no inadequacies
  • Notify superiors on any damages, deficits, and disturbances
  • Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience
  • Check stocking levels of all consumables and replace when appropriate
  • Adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety and be aware of any company-related practices
  • Perform room setups as assigned
  • Perform a variety of floor maintenance duties as assigned including extracting and buffing

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned
  • Job Relationships:

    • Supervised by Housekeeping Supervisor
    • Cooperated extensively with DCM staff members
    • Behaves appropriately around children and works well with diverse museum visitors.

    Education and Experience:

    • Proven housekeeping or hospitality experience

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Working knowledge of housekeeping
    • Ability to work with little or no supervision to maintain a high level of performance
    • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
    • The ability to multitask
    • The ability to stand for extended periods of time
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Exceptional customer service skills
    • Effective communication skills

    The following abilities are required for the position:  (a) Heavy physical exertion and activity will be required; (b) Bend, reach, kneel, squat, walk and climb stairs and ladders; (c) Lift and carry large/bulky items weighing up to 75 pounds; (d) Display the dexterity and motor skills necessary to perform mechanical repairs and work on a variety of machinery; (e) Work outdoors for short periods of time in hot and cold weather; (f) Communicate appropriately, clearly and verbally with museum visitors and co-workers; (g) Tolerate dust, paint, cleaning solutions and plastic/latex.  

    Other: Must have access reliable transportation
